The Indian government has announced its decision to discontinue the duty-free import of yellow peas beyond February, Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi revealed on Thursday.

This significant development came to light during The Pulses Conclave 2025, as Joshi confirmed the government's stance to reporters.

A dedicated Group of Ministers, including Union Minister Amit Shah, is set to further deliberate on the matter. Meanwhile, the India Pulses and Grain Association anticipates potential import restrictions to protect farmers' interests.
