In an alarming escalation of hostilities, Pakistan has intensified its shelling activities in the Poonch sector, further straining already fraught border relations with India. The renewed aggression comes amid reports of small arms and artillery fire targeting the Line of Control (LoC) in the Uri sector of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday.
The Indian Army has been providing a measured response as tensions mount across India's western front. On the night of May 7 and 8, multiple violations of Indian airspace were recorded, with the Pakistani army conducting aerial drone intrusions targeting Indian military assets. In a press briefing, Colonel Sofiya Qureshi said that 300 to 400 drones were operationalized across 36 sectors, several of which were neutralized by Indian forces.
These unmanned vehicles, initially identified as Turkish Asisguard Songar models, were engaged using various means, both kinetic and non-kinetic. The large-scale use of drones suggests an attempt to probe India's air defense systems. Former intelligence from defence sources indicated missile strikes reminiscent of Hamas-style tactics were launched on various fronts, intensifying India-Pakistan tensions. These actions follow India's strategic Operation Sindoor, targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and areas across the LoC.
