BJP's Probe Panel Heads to Kolkata Amid Alleged Gangrape Controversy

A BJP fact-finding committee is set to visit Kolkata to investigate an alleged gangrape at South Calcutta Law College, focusing on law and order in West Bengal. Appointed by President JP Nadda, the team includes notable former ministers and lawmakers. The investigation follows political criticism against the ruling Trinamool Congress.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is sending a four-member fact-finding committee to Kolkata to investigate the alleged gangrape of a law student at South Calcutta Law College. The team, formed by party National President JP Nadda, aims to assess the law and order situation in West Bengal.

Formed on June 28, the committee includes former Union Minister Satpal Singh, Meenakshi Lekhi, Biplab Kumar Deb, and Manan Kumar Mishra. Their mission is to visit the incident site and report their findings back to Nadda. The BJP has condemned the crime and demanded Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's resignation.

On June 25, the police arrested four people in connection with the incident, including Manojit Mishra. In the backdrop, West Bengal LoP Suvendu Adhikari criticized the Trinamool Congress for political interference and police negligence, claiming security personnel were hired based on party loyalty rather than merit.
