Uttar Pradesh Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna conducted a field visit to flood-hit Varanasi on Monday, asserting that relief materials have reached the affected in adequate quantities. Khanna remarked, "It's a natural disaster, and collaboration from everyone is essential."
The situation escalated as Varanasi experienced flooding due to continuous heavy rainfall and the rising Ganga River. As a precautionary measure, authorities halted all boat operations. Residents struggled with knee-deep water, while the city faced severe traffic gridlocks due to waterlogging.
In response, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath instructed prompt action by sending ministers to oversee affected areas. An 11-member team was tasked to manage relief operations across 12 districts, emphasizing constant vigilance. The Chief Minister stressed timely delivery of high-quality relief materials, urging officials to enhance surveillance of embankments and improve the living conditions in relief camps, particularly for women and children.
Adityanath reaffirmed the government's commitment to ensuring safety and providing basic necessities to flood-affected citizens while countering misinformation to maintain public trust. The region remains alert as isolated heavy rain continues, predicted by the IMD.
The floods extended to Prayagraj, where residents waded through waterlogged streets after the Sasur Khaderi River overflowed. The relentless rains have amplified the crisis, demanding sustained governmental intervention and community support.
