In a bold initiative, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has pledged to eradicate child marriage in the state by 2026. Speaking at the launch of Nijut Moina 2.0, Sarma highlighted the scheme's potential to empower four lakh girl students, providing financial support to help them pursue education without hindrance.

The scheme, launched at Gauhati University, offers monthly financial assistance ranging from Rs. 1,000 for Higher Secondary students to Rs. 2,500 for Post Graduate students. The initiative expands on its predecessor by including Central Universities and is expected to support 10 lakh girls by next year.

Sarma stressed that the scheme is a source of hope for families facing financial constraints, enabling their daughters to achieve academic success. The initiative complements other governmental efforts like Orunodoi, broadening access to education across all communities and contributing to Assam's educational transformation.
