In response to heavy rain forecasts, Uttarkashi district has announced the closure of all schools and Anganwadi centers on Thursday, from classes 1 to 12, as more rain is expected on August 7.

The India Meteorological Department issued a red alert, predicting extremely heavy rainfall, which has already caused rising water levels in rivers, disrupted roads, and triggered landslides.

A cloudburst in the district has led to devastating floods and landslides, prompting the Indian Army to launch a coordinated Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief operation.

Currently, the region suffers from multiple road breaches and a collapsed bridge. Over 225 Army personnel are engaged in rigorous search, rescue, and relief efforts with combat engineers helping to clear debris.

Military and civilian helicopters are being utilized for casualty evacuation and delivering relief materials, though some road stretches remain impassable and the civil helipad at Dharali is non-functional due to mudslides.

Three fatalities have been confirmed, with over 50 missing people as the Civil Administration gathers more information. The state's Chief Minister has ensured government support, underlining Prime Minister Modi's pledge for comprehensive aid.
