Heavy rainfall has unleashed chaos across Mumbai, halting traffic in several parts of the city and causing widespread waterlogging. The Western Express Highway near Vile Parle emerged as a notorious bottleneck, with the persistent downpour exacerbating the usual congestion.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) took to social media platform X to outline their observations, recording significant rainfall amounts in coastal Maharashtra and other regions. Areas like Ratnagiri experienced 109 mm while Santacruz noted 71 mm, underscoring the intensity of the rains.
Ahead of Monday's deluge, the IMD had prognosticated inclement weather, warning residents of impending heavy rains and possible flash floods in Mumbai's metropolitan and peripheral regions. This alert extended to parts of Konkan and Goa, highlighting the vulnerability of low-lying districts to flash floods amidst the torrential showers.
With more rain anticipated and gusty winds reaching speeds up to 60 kmph, the city braces itself for further challenges, reinforcing the public and authorities to stay vigilant and prepared for sudden weather changes.
