In a groundbreaking move for sustainable energy, the Ministry of Railways announced on Monday that Banaras Locomotive Works (BLW) in Varanasi has commissioned India's first removable solar panel system positioned between railway tracks. Spanning 70 meters and comprising 28 panels with a capacity of 15KWp, this initiative signifies a significant leap towards green and sustainable rail transport.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw revealed another landmark achievement, with Indian Railways initiating its first industrial salt-loaded rake from the Sanosara (Bhuj-Naliya section) to Dahej. This development is expected to open new opportunities for the region's salt industry, enhancing freight growth and economic development.

Meanwhile, on August 12, Western Railway completed a noteworthy project by commissioning the first 2x25 kV Electric Traction System at the Nagda-Khachrod section under the Ratlam Division, employing Scott Technology, a first for the nation. This advancement is set to bolster India's logistics network, exemplifying the efficient usage of advanced technology in rail transport.
