In a worrying trend, the roof of a classroom at the Rajkiya Balika Uchh Madhyamik School in Rajasthan's Tonk district collapsed on Tuesday, officials confirmed. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported since the room was securely locked at the time of the incident, according to Uniara Sub-Divisional Officer Shatrughan Gurjar.
The authorities have since instructed the school to ensure all potentially dangerous areas remain closed off to students, highlighting a history of similar occurrences across the region. Just months earlier, a tragic incident in Jaisalmer saw a young boy lose his life and others injured due to a collapsing gate at his school.
Administrative action has included the immediate suspension of a Gram Vikas Adhikari, amidst calls for urgent assessment and repair of dilapidated structures within educational facilities. The state government has pledged support to affected families and is enforcing measures to prevent recurrence of such infrastructural failures. A previous roof collapse in July in Jhalawar district resulted in seven fatalities, underscoring the need for renewed focus on school safety.
