Nanded Leads Maharashtra in Farmer Compensation for Crop Loss

Nanded has set a precedent in Maharashtra by becoming the first district to achieve 100% compensation for farmers facing crop losses due to heavy rains and natural calamities, according to state Agriculture Minister Dattatray Bharne.

Commencing Monday, a relief package worth Rs 553.48 crore will be disbursed, alongside an additional Rs 20.81 crore allocated for lands affected by erosion and silt. Affected farmers' lists are being uploaded to the government portal, with promised funds directly transferred to their bank accounts.

Among the 648,533 hectares of damaged crops, soybean, cotton, and vegetables suffered heavily, affecting nearly 7.74 lakh farmers. Relief has been set at Rs 8,500 per hectare for rain-fed crops and escalates to Rs 22,500 for horticulture, underscoring the government's commitment to quick aid delivery, noted Bharne.
