The Office of the Lokpal of India has initiated a public tender process for the acquisition of BMW 330 Li (Long Wheel Base) luxury cars, marking a substantial move to strengthen its administrative and logistical capabilities. This development, starting on October 16, is seen as a strategic enhancement of the anti-corruption body.

The tender seeks bids from suppliers capable of providing the high-end sedans, each priced above Rs 60 lakh, reflecting current automobile market valuations. Officials have indicated that bid evaluations will commence on November 7. The Lokpal plans to acquire seven vehicles, with an anticipated total expenditure exceeding Rs 5 crore. BMW will reportedly offer a week-long training program for the Lokpal's personnel, focusing on the vehicles' systems, safety features, and operations upon delivery.

As an independent anti-corruption authority in India, the Lokpal was established under the Lokpal and Lokayuktas Act, 2013. It plays a critical role in investigating corruption allegations at the national level. Currently chaired by Justice Ajay Manikrao Khanwilkar, the Lokpal holds authority over various senior government officials and organizations. Its jurisdiction also covers certain entities funded by the government and those receiving significant foreign contributions. The Lokpal and its state counterparts, Lokayuktas, collectively aim to tackle corruption across India.
