Struggling Supply Lines: The Gaza Food Crisis

The World Food Programme is attempting to increase food supplies to Gaza but cannot reach the daily target of 2,000 tons as only two crossings, Kerem Shalom and Kissufim, are available. The lack of open routes to the famine-hit north exacerbates the crisis.

The World Food Programme (WFP) revealed on Tuesday that efforts to deliver essential food supplies to Gaza are intensifying but remain insufficient. The organization aims to achieve a daily target of 2,000 tons, yet the lack of operational crossings poses a significant hurdle.

WFP spokesperson Abeer Etefa addressed a press briefing in Geneva, indicating the pressing need to utilize all available border crossings to meet their ambitious supply goals. Current conditions allow access solely through the Kerem Shalom and Kissufim crossings.

This logistical bottleneck becomes even more concerning as access to the severely affected northern regions of Gaza is entirely cut off, complicating the humanitarian efforts further.
