The Luthra brothers, Gaurav and Saurabh, key figures in the Birch Hotel fire incident in Goa, have been apprehended in Thailand. Their deportation to India is imminent, according to sources. India and Thailand's 2013 Extradition Treaty expedites the transfer of fugitive offenders, including those accused of fiscal crimes.
The Goa Police booked the brothers on December 7 for fleeing during the tragic nightclub fire at 'Birch by Romeo Lane,' where 25 lives were lost. Interpol had issued a Blue Corner Notice against them, leading to their capture by Thai authorities. The nightclub, co-owned by the Luthras, saw a late-night blaze on December 6 that resulted in the deaths of five tourists and 20 staff members.
Meanwhile, Ajay Gupta, another co-owner of Birch by Romeo Lane, was brought to Goa for questioning. Delhi's Saket Court had earlier granted Gupta a 36-hour transit remand. The Rohini Court heard the Luthras' anticipatory bail plea, debating its validity since they were outside jurisdiction. Goa's government, led by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, is expediting an inquiry report and compensating victims' families.
