In a significant move to promote equitable earnings for rural youth working as Village Computer Entrepreneurs (V.C.E.s), Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has mandated a minimum wage of 20 rupees for each government-assigned task. This decision aims to ensure rural citizens have access to e-services comparable to those in urban areas.

The state initiative, known as the e-Gram Vishwagram Scheme, facilitates the provision of vital services such as land record copies, farmer registrations, and birth and death certificates at the village level. Furthermore, V.C.E.s are tasked with data-entry work across various government schemes, though previously, the commission per task varied significantly between departments.

Addressing these disparities, Chief Minister Patel recognized the issue during a meeting of the e-Gram Vishwagram Society, leading to the Panchayat Department's directive for uniform compensation. All state government departments are now required to pay V.C.E.s at least 20 rupees per unit of work, and are instructed to coordinate assignments through the Panchayat Department and the e-Gram Vishwagram Society.
