On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Startup India initiative, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the program's transformation from mission to revolution. Addressing a gathering at Bharat Mandapam on National Startup Day, Modi praised the integral role women have played, revealing that over 45% of Indian startups now include at least one female director or founder.
Emphasizing India's position as the second-largest ecosystem for women-led startup funding, Modi urged Indian entrepreneurs to pivot more towards manufacturing. He reflected on the past, stating, "Remember what the situation was like 10 years ago... We challenged those circumstances with Startup India, empowering the youth." India's ecosystem now ranks third globally.
Union Minister Piyush Goyal also marked the anniversary, noting the initiative's massive economic impact with over 2 lakh recognized startups now present in the country. He attributed this success to a shift in mindset and the National Education Policy, which fosters entrepreneurship and interdisciplinary learning. "There is trust in oneself to explore and succeed," he asserted.
