BJP Leaders Urge Defence Minister for Rapid Resolution of Dalit Sikh Resettlement in Meghalaya
A BJP delegation, led by Sanbor Shullai, urged Defence Minister Rajnath Singh for swift action on relocating Dalit Sikhs in Meghalaya. In a bid to address a longstanding issue, a delegation of BJP leaders, spearheaded by Meghalaya Cabinet Minister Sanbor Shullai and State BJP President Rikman G Momin, met Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi. The delegation pressed for a swift resolution to relocate the Dalit Sikh community from Them Iew Mawlong to the Cantonment area.
Highlighting the situation's sensitivity, Shullai urged the Defence Ministry for an expeditious and amicable outcome. In further discussions, the delegation sought quick enforcement of the newly passed building bye-laws and accelerated renewal of policies in the Cantonment region. They also called for the Defence Ministry's approval on defence land acquisition crucial for the Shillong flyover project's completion.
Assuring action, Rajnath Singh promised a review of the matters raised. Concurrently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid homage to Meghalaya on Statehood Day, praising its cultural diversity, environmental stewardship, and social harmony in his letter, reinforcing the 'Act East' policy.
