In a significant turn of events, suspended Bareilly City Magistrate Alankar Agnihotri, who recently tendered his resignation, staged a protest outside the District Collectorate office on Tuesday. Agnihotri claimed there was a deliberate attempt to confine him at the District Magistrate's camp office.
He explained that his resignation had been submitted the day before, adding weight to his accusations of a coordinated effort to hold him. He further revealed that a call was allegedly received at the DM's office to ensure he was detained overnight. Agnihotri reached out to the Bar Association Secretary to alert the media about the purported order to keep him hostage.
Agnihotri's protest has spotlighted alleged anti-Brahmin sentiment in Uttar Pradesh, citing the mistreatment of Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwaranand and others during a religious event. He raised concerns about the purported profiling and attacks on Brahmins across the state, raising questions about the intentions of state authorities.
