Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin paid homage to Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) founder and former Chief Minister CN Annadurai on Tuesday, marking his 57th death anniversary with a floral tribute at his Marina Beach Memorial. Annadurai, born on September 15, 1909, in Conjeevaram, began his career as a teacher and journalist before making a significant mark in politics. He initially joined the Justice Party before creating the DMK, championing the Dravidian and language movement. Though his tenure as Tamil Nadu's Chief Minister was brief, his funeral witnessed a massive turnout, underscoring his impact.
In his tribute, Stalin noted that the DMK government has honored Annadurai by naming landmarks like statues, flyovers, and bus stands after him. Criticizing the BJP government at the Center, he accused them of attempting Hindi imposition and withholding state funds. Stalin confidently declared that the BJP would face expulsion in Tamil Nadu.
Stalin hailed Annadurai as an ever-present figure in Tamil Nadu's cultural and political landscape, highlighting areas named after him. He condemned potential cultural impositions by the BJP, asserting Annadurai's enduring influence in the state. Meanwhile, the BJP rebuked the DMK over its alliance with Congress, reminding the public of Annadurai's historical opposition to the party during the Dravidian movement. As the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections approach, the DMK-Congress and AIADMK-BJP alliances prepare for a three-way contest, with actor-turned-politician Vijay's entry heating up the race. (ANI)
