In response to a Public Interest Litigation, the Delhi High Court has issued directives to civic agencies to alleviate traffic congestion at the Chirag Delhi crossing, a major traffic bottleneck in South East Delhi.
The division bench, led by Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyay and Justice Tejas Karia, emphasized the need for immediate collaboration between the Public Works Department, Delhi Metro, and Delhi Traffic Police to address the issue.
The legal move comes amid complaints of chronic jams from Khanpur to ITO, disrupting the schedules of daily commuters, including numerous legal professionals like the petitioner, Advocate Vakul Sharma.
The court has mandated the PWD, alongside the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation and traffic officials, to convene within a week to devise a resolution, with prompt communication of the decision to the petitioner.
