Trump Advocates for Temporary Federal Gas Tax Pause Amid Rising Prices
President Donald Trump proposed pausing the 18 cent federal gas tax temporarily, citing high U.S. gas prices due to the Iran conflict. While no relief is planned for airlines, Trump suggests the tax will phase back once prices stabilize. Some states are also reducing gasoline taxes.
On Monday, President Donald Trump proposed a temporary halt to the 18 cent federal gas tax, aimed at providing relief from soaring fuel prices amid the ongoing conflict in Iran.
Despite high jet fuel costs, Trump dismissed the possibility of aid for airlines, emphasizing that they are faring adequately under current circumstances.
Energy Secretary Chris Wright confirmed that the administration is considering this tax pause, as states like Indiana, Kentucky, and Georgia initiate gasoline tax cuts to alleviate consumer pressures.
