Asaduddin Owaisi, the AIMIM president, has raised concerns over an 'unusually high number of children' being flagged under the logical discrepancy category by the Election Commission in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). This move, he asserts, requires citizens to ensure their documents are in order.
During a door-to-door campaign in Hyderabad promoting the SIR exercise, Owaisi highlighted anomalies such as the erroneous mapping of family relations from past voter lists. He stressed that discrepancies, such as age differences and family size, should not restrict voting rights.
The logical discrepancy category has stirred political opposition, notably in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu. The Supreme Court has instructed the Election Commission to disclose affected individuals' names publicly, with additional judicial oversight in West Bengal due to the volume of objections. Telangana's SIR is set to start on June 15.
