Dehradun hosts a critical two-day workshop focused on monsoon preparedness, jointly organized by the National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM), the Ministry of Home Affairs, and the Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority (USDMA). Senior officials from central and state governments are convening to enhance disaster preparedness, addressing seasonal challenges.
Uttarakhand Disaster Management and Rehabilitation Secretary Vinod Kumar Suman underscored the significance of readiness in mitigating monsoon-related hazards. In a statement to ANI, Suman noted that discussions involved coordination with various departments, emphasizing detailed disaster preparedness prior to monsoon arrival to address issues such as waterlogging and essential resource stockpiling in high-altitude areas.
Suman also highlighted emergency measures, including heli-evacuations, equipment readiness, and compliance with directives from key government figures. Meanwhile, Dehradun experienced significant rainfall, offering relief from recent heat, as predicted by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The IMD anticipates continued rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds across Uttarakhand, influenced by a Western Disturbance.
