In a significant anti-corruption operation, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Security Inspector from Mahanadi Coalfields Limited's Orient Area in Odisha’s Jharsuguda. The official was caught red-handed accepting a Rs 5,000 bribe from a fellow employee for arranging Sunday duty on a rotational basis.

Acting on a complaint, the CBI set up a trap on June 11, 2026, to catch the inspector in the act. The accused will be presented before a court as the investigation unfolds.

In a similar crackdown, Odisha Vigilance officials have detained Baikuntha Nath Behera, an Assistant Executive Engineer, over disproportionate assets. Raids across nine locations revealed properties and assets, including multiple buildings, plots, gold, significant bank deposits, and cash exceeding Rs 2 crore, believed to be acquired illegally. The probe continues to trace the origin of the wealth amassed since Behera's initial employment as a Junior Engineer in 1999.
