More than 150 women have reached settlements with Yale University after enduring excruciating pain at its fertility clinic when a nurse replaced fentanyl with saline.
Announced Monday in New Haven, Connecticut, the settlements include significant financial compensation, though specific details were not disclosed. The women experienced painful in vitro fertilization procedures, expecting fentanyl, but were instead administered saline, which led to extreme discomfort.
The nurse involved, Donna Monticone, was sentenced to four weekends in prison, three months of home confinement, and three years of supervised release for tampering with the medication. Yale has since instituted new safeguards to prevent future incidents.
