In an effort to alleviate the financial strain on economically disadvantaged patients traveling long distances, Karnataka's Medical Education Minister Sharan Prakash Patil has mandated that the Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology admit such patients as in-patients until health reports are finalized.
During a recent visit to KMIO, Minister Patil addressed the issue of low bed occupancy and concluded that patients left waiting for final diagnoses should be accommodated. He emphasized that many patients cannot afford alternative accommodation in Bengaluru.
To implement this policy, special wards will be converted into general ones, ensuring in-patient care for over 90% of KMIO's BPL category patients. Patil's directive seeks to provide necessary care and comfort during their critical health investigations.
