Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alongside Singapore's Lawrence Wong, visited the semiconductor facility of AEM Holdings Ltd in Singapore on Thursday. The leaders are seeking synergies between the two nations in semiconductor manufacturing. Wong welcomed PM Modi at the facility, where both interacted with officials.

Officials from AEM Holdings Ltd took photographs with PM Modi, highlighting the significance of this visit in enhancing trade opportunities between India and Singapore. Though small, Singapore has a well-developed semiconductor industry, making this collaboration crucial.

The semiconductor sector presents various opportunities for India, including talents from Singaporean universities with specialized courses in the field, and knowledge-sharing of best practices in semiconductor industrial parks. While Singapore has land and labor constraints, India's abundant resources can integrate into Singapore's semiconductor value chain. Semiconductor firms in Singapore may consider India for expansion, and equipment/material manufacturers could aid India's ecosystem development.

Singapore boasts significant players across the semiconductor value chain, including IC design giants like MediaTek and Qualcomm, and key assembly/testing and wafer fabrication firms. On Thursday, PM Modi also met Wong for discussions centered on boosting cooperation in skilling, healthcare, AI, and other sectors, resulting in the exchange of four major MoUs in digital, semiconductor, health, and education fields.

PM Modi noted on X that discussions with Wong focused on bolstering cooperation in multiple sectors. The MoUs were exchanged in the Singapore Parliament House, in the presence of External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Singapore's Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan. Earlier, PM Modi received a ceremonial welcome at Parliament House, met with various ministers and delegates, and held talks in Brunei with Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah before arriving in Singapore.
