Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday addressed the United Nations Summit of the Future at the UN General Assembly in New York, advocating for reforms in global institutions and emphasizing that such reforms are the 'key to relevance.' Modi also highlighted the inclusion of the African Union as a permanent member in the G20, calling it an 'important step.'
Modi underscored India's willingness to share its success experiences with the Global South, asserting that humanity's success relies on 'collective strength' rather than conflict. 'When we discuss the global future, a human-centric approach should be our highest priority,' Modi stated, emphasizing the importance of sustainable development, human welfare, and security in food and health.
He further addressed the threat of terrorism, noting that cyber, maritime, and space are emerging as new conflict areas. 'Global action must match global ambition on all these issues,' Modi said. He also touched upon the need for balanced regulation in technology, advocating for global digital governance that respects sovereignty and integrity. The summit concluded with world leaders adopting a Pact for the Future, covering themes such as peace, sustainability, and digital cooperation.
