Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the Chief Minister of Punjab province in Pakistan, has emphasized the need for a 'practical and sustainable plan' to eradicate polio, which remains a significant issue across the country. According to ARY News, she has instructed authorities to initiate vaccination drives at all entry points in Punjab.
During a meeting on the polio eradication efforts, chaired by Sharif, a decision was made to focus on tracking and registering mobile and migrant populations in the province. The Chief Minister also called for accurate data collection on missing children during these vaccination campaigns. The meeting was attended by Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb and Health Ministers Khawaja Salman Rafique and Khawaja Imran Nazir, along with other officials.
The participants discussed micro-plans and proposals to enhance the effectiveness of the vaccination initiatives, with the aim of making Punjab completely polio-free. Maryam Nawaz Sharif vowed to eradicate polio from Punjab and highlighted that widespread public support is crucial. The campaign's progress is being closely monitored, and maintaining the cold chain as per SOPs is prioritized. Recent reports of polio cases in Sindh and Balochistan underscore the urgency of these efforts.
