Southern African bloc calls for recount of Congo's contested election

The Southern African Development Community (SADC) suggested on Sunday that Democratic Republic of Congo recount votes from a contested Dec. 30 presidential election that the runner-up says was rigged and which has sparked isolated violence across the country.

"A recount would provide necessary reassurance to both winners and losers," the SADC statement said. (Reporting By Edward McAllister Editing by Keith Weir)
