In anticipation of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's upcoming visit to the United States, Mukesh Aghi, the President and CEO of the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum, emphasized the potential for strengthening bilateral relations. Aghi called the upcoming meeting between Modi and U.S. President Donald Trump a 'fantastic opportunity' to enhance both countries' priorities, especially in economic growth, defense cooperation, and technological collaboration.

Aghi noted the mutual ambitions: President Trump is focused on enacting changes both domestically and internationally, while India is eager for increased investments and technology access from the United States. He highlighted the strong rapport between the two leaders, marking the meeting as a significant opportunity to set a strategic agenda for the next four years.

This could pave the way for deeper defense cooperation, Aghi said, mentioning the unique joint military exercises shared by India and the U.S. He also acknowledged expectations from the Trump administration for India to place defense orders, contingent on discussions between Modi and his defense advisors. Meanwhile, Dhruva Jaishankar of ORF America outlined major areas to watch, particularly defense agreements, which may include acquisition of U.S. inventory like aircraft and potential co-production and technological collaboration, aligning with India's defense priorities.
