Human Rights Focus Pakistan (HRFP) issued a strong condemnation of the ongoing persecution and discrimination against religious minorities in Pakistan. Christians and Hindus, in particular, are facing dire threats ranging from forced conversions and abductions to physical violence.

HRFP highlighted that young women and girls from these communities are frequently targeted for forced conversions. The misuse of blasphemy laws has intensified these communities' vulnerabilities, creating an atmosphere of fear and intimidation. In a recent case, Christian youth Farhan Masih was accused under blasphemy charges in Sahiwal, reflecting the unlawful measures deployed against minorities.

According to HRFP, an FIR was filed against Farhan at the local police, accusing him under various sections of the Penal Code, which carry severe penalties. These charges, HRFP suggests, often stem from personal vendettas rather than actual offenses.

During a fact-finding mission, HRFP discovered that Farhan's accusation stemmed from a personal dispute. Despite this, Farhan's family is facing economic and social challenges following his forced job resignation. HRFP assured the family of their support until justice is served.

Naveed Walter, HRFP president, emphasized the broader issue where minorities encounter physical violence, social exclusion, and limited access to justice. He noted that institutional discrimination further marginalizes these groups, challenging constitutional guarantees of equality and religious freedom.
