In a significant diplomatic development, Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in bilateral discussions with Qatar's Amir, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, focusing on boosting trade, investment, and energy cooperation between the two nations. Both leaders emphasized the long-standing historic trade ties and the crucial people-to-people connections binding India and Qatar.
A pivotal agreement was signed to transform the existing bilateral relations into a strategic partnership, with the goal of doubling trade in the forthcoming five years. Secretary of the Ministry of External Affairs, Arun Kumar Chatterjee, highlighted the ambition to increase annual trade from the current USD 14 billion.
The Qatari delegation, including ministers and top business leaders, also explored potential investment opportunities in India. Prime Minister Modi appreciated the participation of key Qatari business figures, while a Joint Business Forum facilitated robust interactions between industrialists from both countries. The Amir's visit underlines a strengthening partnership, with potential for substantial economic collaboration.
