On Tuesday, China voiced strong disapproval following US President Donald Trump's signing of a memorandum aimed at limiting Chinese investments in critical sectors. Lin Jian, China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson, conveyed China's firm stance to the Global Times, condemning the US's actions as detrimental to the semiconductor industry.
The Trump administration's efforts to further tighten restrictions on China's semiconductor sector were revealed, with reports indicating pressure on key allies like Japan and the Netherlands to comply with US-imposed curbs. This move, echoing priorities of the current administration, aims to extend limitations on entities such as Lam Research Corp. and Applied Materials Inc.
China's Foreign and Commerce Ministries have strongly denounced these measures, warning that politicizing trade could spur a trade war. The US considers expanding restrictions on outbound investments in sensitive technologies like AI and biotechnology, escalating tensions with China.
