The Indian Naval Ship Imphal's arrival in Port Louis, Mauritius, on March 10, 2025, sets the stage for its debut port call ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit. The ship will join the 57th Mauritius National Day events on March 12.
A Ministry of Defence statement highlights the tradition of Indian warships and aircraft participating in Mauritius National Day celebrations. The INS Imphal will feature a marching contingent, naval band, and helicopter flypast during the National Day Parade at Champs de Mars. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will grace the occasion as the Chief Guest.
Scheduled to remain in Port Louis from March 10 to 14, the ship's agenda includes training and cultural exchanges, sports fixtures, and community activities, aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and maritime cooperation. An exercise with MCGS ships is also planned, reflecting India's 'Neighborhood First' policy and SAGAR vision of regional security and growth.
India's commitment to a stable Indian Ocean Region (IOR) is demonstrated through the deployment of advanced Indian warships and aircraft at the Mauritius celebrations. The partnership between India and Mauritius is bolstered by historical, political, economic, and socio-cultural ties.
The INS Imphal, commissioned in December 2023 as the third of four indigenous Project 15B destroyers, is equipped with state-of-the-art technology and ranks among the world's most advanced warships, according to the Ministry of Defence.
