Four years into Afghanistan's current regime, women continue to face exclusion from governmental roles and access to education and employment, the UN Special Representative for Women in Afghanistan reported to Tolo News. Susan Ferguson emphasized the societal harm this status quo, as it erodes the potential of young Afghan girls.
UN findings reveal that half of female workers in civil society entities lost their jobs this year amid decreasing funding. Ferguson expressed that Afghan women endure the severe impact of dwindling international support. She noted multiple organizations fear their services for women will cease amid these financial constraints.
Despite these hurdles, the UN remains committed to empowering organizations and maintaining women's involvement in global discussions to protect their rights, Tolo News informed. Women's rights advocate Faryal Sayedzada highlighted the detrimental impact of blocking education for Afghan girls and anticipates corrective measures in the upcoming academic year.
Human rights issues, notably women's education and employment rights, continue to be contentious topics between Afghanistan's interim government and the international community over the last four years. Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Afghanistan's Islamic Emirate disclosed ongoing efforts to align policies with Sharia principles, as reported by Tolo News. (ANI)
