Global condemnation mounts as Israel moves to escalate military actions in Gaza City and expand illegal settlements in the West Bank's disputed E1 area, with top leaders warning of dire humanitarian consequences. The global outcry follows the Israeli security cabinet's recent approval to seize control of Gaza City and mobilize 60,000 reservists, alongside the planned advancement of a controversial settlement project that could effectively bisect a future Palestinian state.
French President Emmanuel Macron took to X, cautioning that Israel's actions risk plunging the region into unending conflict. In his discussions with Jordan's King Abdullah II and Egypt's President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, Macron warned that the impending military offensive would lead to disaster for all involved and entrench a vicious cycle of permanent warfare.
Meanwhile, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called the plans a grave escalation, warning of exacerbated suffering for Gaza's already battered population. He emphasized the need for immediate ceasefire, hostages' unconditional release, and reversing settlement expansions in defiance of international law. Similarly, German and UK officials criticized Israel's plans, stressing they undermine peace efforts and the two-state solution's viability.
