Amid rising global economic tensions, US President Donald Trump has labeled the BRICS consortium as an adversary to the dollar, cautioning member nations of impending tariffs. Speaking during a lunch meeting with Argentine President Javier Milei, Trump emphasized the benefits countries gain by trading in dollars and expressed readiness to penalize those seeking to join the expanded BRICS coalition.
"I'm very strong on the dollar," Trump stated, underscoring the advantages for partners adhering to dollar transactions. In a stern warning, he announced tariffs as a deterrent to nations contemplating BRICS membership, claiming it as an economic maneuver against the US. He proudly noted the dwindling involvement with BRICS, asserting that the group is no longer a significant threat.
BRICS, originally formed by Brazil, Russia, India, and China, and now including South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, the UAE, and Indonesia, has faced criticism from Trump for opposing US interests. Meanwhile, India has reiterated its non-confrontational stance on the dollar, with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar stating that India has no desire to disrupt the dollar's dominance. (ANI)
