In a sharp critique, PTI leader Abdul Samad Yaqoob condemned the extension of General Syed Asim Munir's term as Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), branding it a 'dictatorial manoeuvre.' Yaqoob alleged that this move aims to tighten military control over Pakistan's political and civilian institutions.
Yaqoob, speaking exclusively to ANI, called the creation of the CDF post itself a 'constitutional overreach' that his party plans to challenge legally. He argued that the amendment establishing this position threatens Pakistan's fragile democracy by endowing unchecked power to the army chief, effectively endorsing a military dictatorship.
Addressing the ongoing imprisonment of Imran Khan, Yaqoob blamed the military establishment, not the civilian government. He asserted that the genuine authority lies with the army chief, describing the Prime Minister as merely a puppet in Pakistan's system. Yaqoob warned that General Munir's reappointment is driving the country toward a one-man rule.
