Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in a significant diplomatic meeting with King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima during his recent visit to the Netherlands. This visit, marking Modi's second since 2017, is part of a broader European tour. Key discussions involve deepening bilateral ties with Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten, focusing on sectors such as defense, security, and innovation.
The Netherlands holds substantial economic importance for India, being a major European trade partner with bilateral exchanges valued at USD 27.8 billion and standing as the fourth largest investor in India. With a vibrant Indian diaspora in the Netherlands, consisting of over 90,000 Indians and 3,500 students, people-to-people connections form a cornerstone of the relationship.
At a community event, Modi praised the strong cultural bonds and likened The Hague to an 'Indian friendship symbol.' Addressing potential global challenges, Modi highlighted the need for resilient supply chains and collaborative efforts between the two nations, especially amid crises ranging from pandemics to energy shortages. He underlined the importance of the India-EU trade agreement as a gateway for deeper Indo-Dutch cooperation.
