Haryana Transport Minister Aseem Goel has appealed to Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to intervene in reopening the Shambhu border near Ambala. The border closure, due to farmers' protests, has significantly impacted traders and local residents.

Goel, who met Chouhan on Tuesday in New Delhi, highlighted that the protests at Shambhu village, on the Haryana-Punjab border, have led to the border's months-long closure. The Minister noted that this has made life challenging for the general public, particularly for traders conducting business.

Goel stressed the need for the central government to engage in discussions with the farmers to resolve the issue, emphasizing that reopening the border would provide much-needed relief. In response, Chouhan assured that the central government is taking the issue seriously and will act soon.

In contrast, Kisan Mazdoor Morcha leader Sarwan Singh Pandher claimed that it was actually the government, not the farmers, that blocked the highway by setting up barricades during their 'Delhi Chalo' march in February. The farmers have been protesting at the Shambhu and Khanauri border points since then, demanding a legal guarantee for minimum support prices for crops.
