In a significant move to bolster NATO's eastern defenses, Romania, Bulgaria, and Greece have signed an agreement to enhance cross-border movement of troops and weapons. The deal, formalized on Thursday, aims to expedite military mobilization and reduce procedural delays in response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022. The Romanian defence ministry highlighted the pact's focus on optimizing transport corridors and creating efficient road and rail supply lines between the participating nations.
Additionally, the agreement includes plans to connect ports in the Aegean and Black seas, further strengthening military logistics and cooperation among the three countries. This initiative is part of broader efforts to address the increased urgency for NATO and the EU to prepare for potential conflicts with Moscow.
Summarizing the developments, Romanian and Bulgarian defence ministers also signed a memorandum to establish a regional special operations command center. This center will plan and manage the Alliance’s special operations forces in the strategically important Black Sea region.
