The United States is contemplating the discontinuation of its efforts to reinstall a crucial pier for delivering humanitarian aid to Gaza, citing adverse weather conditions and maintenance issues, according to two U.S. officials on Thursday.

Both the White House and the Department of Defense confirmed that the pier's operations would soon cease, though they declined to provide a specific timeline. Meanwhile, Pentagon and U.S. Central Command officials are debating an early termination of the pier operations due to its decreased desirability, attributed to weather conditions and maintenance difficulties.

This development follows earlier plans to reattach the pier for a few days to transport remaining aid before removing it permanently. Thus far, over 19.4 million pounds of aid have been successfully delivered despite significant challenges. Alternative plans are being considered, such as using Israel's Ashdod port for future aid deliveries.
