BJP Declares 'Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas' to Mark Emergency Imposition

The BJP has announced that June 25 will be observed as 'Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas' annually to highlight and remember the dictatorial actions of the Congress during the Emergency imposed by Indira Gandhi's government nearly 50 years ago. This day will honor those who suffered and sacrificed their lives fighting against the Emergency.

The BJP on Friday confirmed that June 25 will be marked as 'Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas' every year, in remembrance of the Congress' ‘dictatorial mindset’ during the Emergency imposed by Indira Gandhi's government around 50 years ago. This day aims to honor the sacrifices and struggles of those who opposed the Emergency.

The announcement followed Union Home Minister Amit Shah's statement regarding the government's decision. Shah emphasized that June 25, the day the Emergency was declared in 1975, will commemorate the ‘massive contributions’ of those who endured severe sufferings during this period.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh remarked that the effects of the Emergency are still alive in the memories of the Indian people. On the same note, BJP chief JP Nadda stressed the importance of remembering this 'black day,' highlighting the ‘dictatorial mindset’ of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The observance aims to pay tribute to the fighters for democracy and ensure the significance of democratic values is remembered every year.
