The Supreme Court has postponed the hearing on ex-Tamil Nadu minister V Senthil Balaji’s bail plea to July 22. Arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering case linked to a cash-for-jobs scam, Balaji's plea was earlier dismissed by the Madras High Court. The issue continues to draw public and legal scrutiny.

The Supreme Court has rescheduled the hearing of former Tamil Nadu minister V Senthil Balaji's bail plea to July 22. Balaji was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate last year in connection with a money laundering case tied to a cash-for-jobs scandal.
A bench comprising Justice Abhay S Oka and Justice Augustine George Masih deferred the matter on Friday due to time constraints. Earlier, on April 1, the top court had issued a notice to the Enforcement Directorate, seeking its response on the bail plea.
The Madras High Court had rejected Balaji's bail petition on February 28, stressing that releasing him would send the wrong signal and oppose public interest. After spending over eight months in custody, it was deemed appropriate for the special court to expedite the trial.
With trials proceeding on a day-to-day basis as guided by the apex court, Balaji’s legal troubles remain under intense public and judicial focus. The ED’s 3,000-page charge sheet, filed last August, continues to weigh heavily against him as his petitions for bail have seen repeated dismissals in local courts.
