A Pakistani court on Saturday acquitted former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, in an un-Islamic marriage case. However, their hopes of release were dashed as they were immediately arrested in a new corruption case.
An Islamabad district and sessions court accepted appeals from Khan and Bushra, overturning their Iddat case conviction. Nonetheless, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) soon detained them again for allegedly acquiring state gifts at low prices and selling them for profit.
This marks the third Toshakhana case against Khan, whose earlier sentences were suspended. The PTI party called the new arrest a bid to prolong his imprisonment. Various courts have acquitted Khan in numerous other charges since his first arrest in May 2023.
