Red Sea Disruptions Impact Global Shipping

A.P. Moller-Maersk announced that disruptions in container shipping via the Red Sea have affected its global ocean network. Since December, Maersk and other shippers have rerouted vessels around Africa's Cape of Good Hope to avoid Houthi militant attacks, leading to longer voyages and increased freight rates.

A.P. Moller-Maersk revealed on Wednesday that disruptions in container shipping via the Red Sea have extended beyond trade routes in Eastern Europe to affect its entire ocean network.

Since December, Maersk, along with other shipping companies, has been diverting vessels around Africa’s Cape of Good Hope. These measures aim to avoid attacks by Iran-aligned Houthi militants in the Red Sea.

The longer voyage times have consequently pushed freight rates higher, impacting global shipping costs.
