Supreme Court to Revisit Nithari Serial Killings Acquittal

The Supreme Court has agreed to hear the pleas by the CBI and Uttar Pradesh government challenging the Allahabad High Court's acquittal of Surendra Koli in the 2006 Nithari serial killings case. The high court had acquitted Koli and his employer Moninder Singh Pandher, citing insufficient evidence and botched investigation.

The Supreme Court has decided to review the pleas submitted by the CBI and the Uttar Pradesh government against the Allahabad High Court's decision to acquit Surendra Koli in the notorious 2006 Nithari serial killings case.

A bench consisting of Justices B R Gavai, K V Viswanathan, and N Kotiswar Singh has issued a notice seeking a response from Koli concerning the petitions, which have been combined with similar cases already pending in the apex court.

This move follows the court's earlier decision in July to request Koli's response to separate appeals filed by the CBI against last year's high court verdict dated October 16. The high court had acquitted Koli and his employer, Moninder Singh Pandher, overturning their death sentences on grounds of insufficient evidence and accusations of poorly conducted investigations.
