Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday visited a state-run hospital in Jharkhand's capital to meet contractual police assistants injured in a clash with police personnel a day prior.
Condemning the lathi-charge by the JMM-led government, Sarma criticized the crackdown on police assistants demanding permanent recruitment and increased honorarium. Sarma, also the BJP's election co-incharge for Jharkhand, said the police action was uncalled for.
Opposition BJP leaders echoed the sentiment, slamming the Hemant Soren administration for its failure to address the needs of protesting Special Police Officers. The agitating officers were later assured various relaxations and concessions in upcoming police department appointments.
