On Thursday, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government of violating constitutional provisions by not constituting the Sixth Delhi Finance Commission after the Fifth Commission's tenure ended on March 31, 2021.
At a press conference, Delhi BJP MLA Vijender Gupta emphasized the importance of the Sixth Commission, citing the trifurcation and subsequent unification of the Delhi Municipal Corporation. Gupta also alleged that the lieutenant governor, appointed by the BJP, is obstructing the Commission's implementation.
In response, AAP claimed the delay was due to the BJP’s lieutenant governor blocking the commission's formation, demanding an immediate start. Gupta threatened further action, including approaching the President for the AAP government's dismissal over constitutional violations.
