Supreme Court Cracks Down on Delhi's Solid Waste Management Failures

The Supreme Court reprimanded the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) for inadequate implementation of Solid Waste Management Rules in the national capital. Justice Abhay S Oka emphasized the necessity of law enforcement despite accusations of unfairness. The court urged immediate collaboration between officials to avert a potential public health emergency.

The Supreme Court of India has lambasted the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) over its failure to effectively implement Solid Waste Management Rules, warning that untreated waste could cause a public health emergency in the capital.

Justice Abhay S Oka, leading the bench with Justice Augustine George Masih, stressed the urgency of the situation, dismissing accusations of unfairness. 'We will ensure that these laws are implemented, even at the risk of being called unfair,' Justice Oka declared.

The court directed senior officials from both the MCD and the Delhi government, as well as nearby regions like Gurugram and Faridabad, to convene for immediate solutions. The next hearing is set for September 6.
